Who can enroll in City Invincible Charter School? How can they enroll?
City Invincible Charter School is open on a space-available basis to all New Jersey students who will be in kindergarten through grade 6 for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. Students who live in the City of Camden are given enrollment preference over non-resident students. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be five (5) years of age by October 1st of the school year they enter.
If more children apply to enroll than there are spaces available, then we will use a random, nondiscriminatory lottery process to select our students. There is no entrance or qualifying examination. City Invincible Charter School will mail applicants the details on when and where the enrollment lottery will be held. We will place students who are not selected in the lottery on a waiting list and we will notify their families as vacancies occur.
Applications are available on our school website (www.cityinvinciblecharter.org) or from a school representative at (856) 342-9500
Must I attend the lottery?
You are welcome to attend the lottery but it is not necessary. Within 10 days after the lottery, we will notify every family by mail about the result for their children—either acceptance or a number on the waiting list. We will also post the results on our website. On the website we will use the unique number that appears on your application and your receipt, instead of using children’s names. We will not be able to give results by phone.
What happens after my child’s number gets drawn at the lottery for acceptance in City Invincible Charter School?
After a student’s name is selected in the lottery for enrollment in City Invincible Charter School, we will mail an acceptance letter and instructions on the paperwork that you will need to complete.
If my child ends up on the waiting list, should I call to check my status and make the case for my child to be enrolled?
We know how eager families are to know the status, but we ask families to check the website and wait for a call from us instead of calling. Your child will remain on a waiting list as we offer spaces for enrollment in the order in which the names are listed on the waiting list. If and when there is a space available in the appropriate grade, we will telephone the next family on the waiting list.
What happens to applications received after the deadline?
We will continue accepting applications for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year until June 30th. After the lottery, instead of holding another lottery, we will place applicants directly until we reach capacity. Once we reach capacity, other applicants will be placed on the waiting list in the order in which we receive their applications.
If my child doesn’t get in this year, do I need to reapply for next year?
Yes, we invite you to reapply for admission for the next year. The New Jersey State Department of Education requires charter schools to eliminate all waiting lists and to conduct a lottery with new applications each year so we will start a fresh waiting list each year.
